All about wool soakers
What is a soaker?
Soakers are hand knit wool diaper covers for babies and children. Before disposable diapers and rubber pants, mothers knit soakers and longies for their children to wear over cloth diapers.
Knit wool makes an excellent diaper cover. The wool fibers absorb moisture and regulate the body temperature. The natural fibers allow air to flow which helps reduce diaper rash. Wools resistance to leaks will amaze you. A well lanolized cover will keep your lap and your sheets dry!
If your child is waking up wet from a leaky diaper or is experiencing rashes, or if you live in a cold climate, add wool to your child’s wardrobe.
Soakers are worn over an absorbent diaper and under clothes. We recommend cloth diapers for a variety of reasons. Even if you only use cloth part time cloth diapers are better for your child, the environment and for your wallet.
Like longies, your child’s soaker can be worn over a prefold, fitted, or a pocket diaper. We find that having a variety of diapers works best. We like fitted diapers for naps, prefolds for around the house, and pockets for extended trips and over nights. We stuff our pocket diapers with prefolds and use our wool longies or soakers- and never have leaks!
Soakers can be used in any weather. They can be worn under dresses, with a t-shirt, under shorts or pajamas.
Wool covers are easy to care for. Since they don't need to be washed after every use, you will notice less laundry. The Llamajama wool care kit includes liquid lanolin and our organic wool soap. That is all you need to keep your wool covers smelling fresh and leak free.
